Month of Kindness in Action

A group of ten people wearing matching light blue Enatel T‑shirts stand side by side on wet pavement in front of a large orange truck. The truck displays a green-and-orange logo reading “0800 Hungry Food Ministry,” with partially visible black text below that says “stand in the gap.” The people are smiling and facing the camera, and some hold jackets or give thumbs‑up gestures.

During August, the Enatel team supported a range of non-profit organizations as part of our annual Month of Kindness initiative. It is always a special opportunity to set time aside to learn more about the challenges facing our community and see first-hand how local charities are creating positive change.

Christchurch Community Support

Some of the Christchurch organizations supported through this year’s Month of Kindness reflect the diverse needs that exist across our community.

Supporting Families Through Food

Food insecurity remains a reality for many households across Canterbury, which is why Enatel volunteers spent time supporting both 0800 Hungry and Full Bellies

0800 Hungry provides emergency food parcels to individuals and families experiencing hardship, helping ensure vulnerable households have access to essential groceries when they need them most.

Full Bellies works alongside local schools to provide nutritious food bags to children identified as needing additional support. By helping remove hunger as a barrier to learning, the organisation enables tamariki to participate fully in their education while maintaining dignity for children and their families.

Together, these organisations are helping create healthier outcomes for children, families, and the wider community.

Helping Families Through Challenge

At Ronald McDonald House South Island, volunteers supported an organisation that provides accommodation and care for families whose children require hospital treatment away from home.

By offering a home away from home close to healthcare facilities, Ronald McDonald House helps keep families together during some of life’s most challenging moments, allowing them to focus on supporting their child’s recovery.

Caring for Local Environments

Volunteers also worked alongside the Avon Ōtākaro Network, a community-led organisation focused on restoring and enhancing the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor.

Through environmental regeneration, biodiversity initiatives, recreation projects, and community advocacy, the organisation is helping transform the area into a thriving natural and community space for future generations to enjoy.

Why It Matters

Month of Kindness is about more than volunteering. It is an opportunity to connect with organisations tackling real challenges in our community and to recognise the impact they have every day.

We’re proud to have supported these organisations throughout August and grateful to every Enatel employee who contributed their time and energy to the initiative.

How You Can Get Involved

The work of these organisations continues long after Month of Kindness has finished.

Whether through volunteering, donations, fundraising, or simply raising awareness, there are many ways to support the charities helping improve the lives of people across Christchurch. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps strengthen our community.
